Housing Officer (Supported Housing) - Local Authority, London

We are seeking a Housing Officer to join a London local authority. Working as part of the Sheltered Housing team, you will be responsible for delivering enhanced tenancy and estate management services to improve the quality of life for older and vulnerable residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver a comprehensive housing management service for sheltered housing residents, ensuring they can maintain their tenancy and access necessary housing and support services.
  • Conduct regular monitoring and inspection of sheltered housing schemes to ensure communal areas are safe, clean, and well-maintained, and residents' needs are considered during planned maintenance.
  • Assist residents who are less able to report repairs and coordinate a handyman service for a more tailored response to their needs.
  • Promote and facilitate social activities within the housing scheme to improve residents' quality of life, while overseeing the use of communal lounges and guest rooms.
  • Oversee the rehousing process, working closely with the voids team to ensure properties are ready, conducting viewings, and managing the sign-up of new tenants.
  • Manage tenancy processes including sign-ups, changes, successions, and terminations. Identify breaches of tenancy and raise concerns with the sheltered housing manager for further investigation.
  • Proactively manage rent accounts, alerting tenants to arrears, offering payment advice, and providing assistance with benefit claims. Issue notices and assist with possession processes where necessary.
  • Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations, including responding to emergencies and safeguarding concerns in accordance with council policies.
  • Maintain accurate records, track service performance, and contribute to service improvements through regular data reporting.

Experience, Knowledge & Qualifications:

  • GCSE A-Level or NVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience.
  • A housing qualification is desirable but not essential.
  • Thorough understanding of housing management, particularly sheltered housing.
  • Knowledge of housing legislation, health and safety, and safeguarding practices.
  • Familiarity with assistive technologies (e.g. falls detectors, medication alerts) is advantageous.
  • Experience working with older and vulnerable customers in a housing management setting.
  • Proven experience in tenancy management, rehousing, and rent account management.
  • Experience working in a performance management framework, reporting on KPIs.

    * Proactively respond to expressions of dis- satisfaction at the initial stage, preventing escalation wherever possible.
    * Investigate, register all complaints and report in accordance with company and client procedures. Ensure all MP, Councillor enquiries and complaints are investigated and resolved efficiently and within target and advising residents and clients of their outcomes
